A radio program on Nkhotakota Community Radio has sparked a grassroots vaccine awareness campaign in Nkhotakota District, Malawi.

Group Village Head Chazolokera, inspired by the broadcast on vaccine importance, has taken it upon himself to educate his community about the benefits of immunization.

"Many people in my village shy away from vaccines due to lack of knowledge," Chief Chazolokera explained. "I was listening to Nkhotakota Radio, that's where I clearly understood the significance of vaccines."

The chief's initiative demonstrates the far-reaching impact of community radio in rural Malawi. Nkhotakota Community Radio, which emerged as the top community radio station in Malawi in 2013 with a 52% listenership, has been instrumental in disseminating crucial health information.

Determined to make a difference, Chief Chazolokera has mobilized his subordinates to spread the message at various community gatherings.

"From that day, I made a commitment with my subordinates to encourage villagers to go for vaccination using community gatherings like funerals, weddings, and normal traditional gatherings as places to tell people about the power of vaccines," he stated.
